1 Timothy 3: 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience
We have a glorious faith. We are privileged to have access to such a faith. If you don’t know the Lord yet, the door is wide open for all. All you need to do is to receive Jesus Christ the one who died for you as Lord as Saviour and begin to live unto Him.
Yes we have a glorious faith, and to benefit more from what we have, we need to ‘ hold the mystery of faith in a pure conscience’.
What does this mean? Listen to your heart. We are to search our hearts at all times. We need to make sure that our motives are right. We are to remain teachable and ensure our hearts and conscience are pure.
Lets look at a few scriptures:
Acts 23 :1
And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.
Paul says here that he exercises himself i.e a conscious effort to make sure his conscience is void of offence toward God and men.
1 Timothy 1: 5
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
Holding our faith in a pure conscience is part of our call. Everything the Lord requires us to do is for our good and essential to life a productive Christian life.
The importance of this is evident from this scripture:
1 Timothy 1:18-19
This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
Very serious but true.
Lets exercise ourselves to maintain a good and pure conscience. Lets do what we know is right and maintain our ground whether or not others do.
Its critical to our walk with the Lord.
