The foundations of our Christian Walk are essential. What we are taught as young believers in Christ can affect our mindsets and views about things and how we approach our Christian Walk. If the foundation of our Christian walk is good motivational teachings and we are not exposed to the Word of God and prayer, after a while we may struggle when the trials of life come, especially if we do not have a good network system. When l say “network system” l mean a group of strong believers that can help and guide. Have you ever wondered why some new believers seem to get on further than others you would have expected more from? One reason is wrong mindsets and inadequate teaching of the Word of God and His ways. The Lord has ways of doing things and if we don’t know, we don’t know. There is a reason why the Scripture says “for all men to be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth”. If when we get saved we do not come unto the knowledge of the truth, we will struggle. At the end of the day, Jesus is the foundation. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3: 11). We have an example in the Bible where the believers had not heard that there was still the experience of the Holy Spirit (Act 19: 2-6). If Paul had not shared this with them, they could have gone a while before they encountered the person of the Holy Spirit who would bring great privileges into any believer’s life. As Jesus is the foundation, our teachings should focus on Jesus Christ, not church doctrine or traditions of men, knowing the Lord, intimacy with the Lord, and who we are in Christ. These are vital foundations in any believer’s life. So my question is, when you came to know the lord what were you taught? Is there a need to repair the foundations? A house is built upon a foundation, and if the foundation is faulty, the results of this will be shown as time goes on. It could be that we were not taught about the true nature of God, who we are in Christ, eternal judgment, and the fear of the Lord, including the list found in Hebrews 6: 1-2 which speaks about the principles of the doctrine of Christ. So let us ask the Lord to reveal any faulty foundation in our lives that needs to be repaired, so we can move on in our Christian experience which will help us to become more productive in His service. Bisi, this gets to the basics--the foundation. A physical building is no better than its foundation. No matter how good the building looks outside, if the foundation is flawed, the building is flawed. The same is true about the life of a believer. It is only as good as the foundation upon which it was built.
