Lets look at an example of the routine of someone's week. Sunday is church service, Monday prayer meeting , Tuesday an outreach , Wednesday committee meeting etc. the list can go on. However, in the midst of all this activity, what is the Lord saying to your heart? Revelation 2: 2 - 4 2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. The above church had works and labour, however in the eyes of the Lord, they had “Left their first love”.
Scripture is written for our admonition for us to learn from. Isn’t this common today , activity overriding what is really important? From the above it is evident that works and labour is no excuse not to listen to what the Lord is specifically saying to you to do. Our paths are different, challenges of life different, and only the Lord knows what should be a priority for you as a person now. Activity is good, dont get me wrong, but what is the Lord saying to you? To some, its excuse yourself from that for a while and spend more time in prayer. To another person its, spend more time with your family. To another person, it could be , were is your first love? Yes you are all over the place, but you have left your first love. Activity, and not the Lord has become your first love. We need to be careful and sensitive to what the Lord is specifically saying to us. Don’t get caught up in the glamour and frame to the neglect of that gentle still voice nudging you into a specific direction for your life. When the Lord rebuked this church, their works and labour was not an excuse to “leave their first love”. Neither will it be for us. Are you full of activity but deep within you think that something is not right? Get quiet, and begin to ask for specific direction. Or has the Lord being trying to get your attention? Please obey. Let us not be victims of disobedience. Lets me wise, and walk with the Lord. He is the only one that has the master plan for our lives, and knows what is coming ahead of us. Bisi Oladipupo

For me "works alone" means two things. First of all that there needs to be works. We cannot be Christian and not do God's work, it is not possible and it would be lying to say that I believe in Christ and not do what He tells us to do.

Thanks Joanna for your comments. What l was trying to say is that in the midst of all the works, is there still something missing or something that needs greater attention. God bless

I love this post. No matter what we do in the name of the Lord, nothing means more to God than that we love Him with all our heart, soul, strength and mind.
