![]() Whether you realise it or not, as a Christian you are a soldier of Christ. The bible calls us soldiers of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 2; 3-4). A soldier represents another country and defends and fights for it. Soldiers don’t live for themselves. If you look through scripture, many verses confirm and have the characteristics of a life of a soldier. ![]() 2 Corinthians 5; 15 “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again”. We are called soldiers of Christ. 2 Timothy 2; 3-4 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. Soldiers don’t do things only when it is convenient. They do things in season and out of season. A soldier can’t tell its commander, “sorry its rainy l can’t go today”. The scriptures equally tell us to be instant in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4;2). Just as a country will not send out tropps unarmed, and without the necessary supplies, neither has our Lord. This is why we need to follow the instructions of the Lord by His spirit and in His word. Can you imagine if a soldier told his commander; “sorry l don’t want to do it that way” of l don’t think l need this or that armour?”. We need to know the ways of the Lord (Psalms 107 ; 3). The Lord is the Lord of hosts, mighty in battle (Psalms 24; 8) and He knows better. A good soldier endures hardness. We are chosen to be soldiers. A good soldier is dedicated fully to the affairs of the one sent by. There is a lot of terminology used in the bible that further confirms that we are soldiers. Soldiers are also given specific tasks and this is why we need to abide where we have been called. “Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called” ( 1 Corinthians 7;20). A soldier also does what he is commanded to you. “If ye love me, keep my commandments” John 14; 15). Soldiers are given: Weapons 2 Cor 10; 4-5 Armour Ephesians 6; 11- 18 Soldiers wrestle Ephesians 6; 12 Soldiers fight 1 Timothy 6; 12 Indeed we are soldiers and have been given the proper fighting gear through His name and the power of the Holy spirit. We also have the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and ministering spirits, the angels of the Lord. So next time you feel like going with the pulls of the flesh, in whatever manner that might be, ask the Lord for grace and remind yourself that you are a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ©Bisi Oladipupo 19th July 2020

Bisi, I agree that we are soldiers in the army of the Lord. He has totally equipped us for battle. If we put on the whole armor of God, we will always have more than enough to win.
