The word “contentment” means satisfaction. I am not saying that we have to be content with bad circumstances, or circumstances that do not line up with the truth of God’s word, however the bible does speak about contentment. I read an interesting write up which speaks for itself to help rely the point.
“Take Adam and Eve as an example. Before the devil could get them to sin, he had to make them discontented. That was no small chore. How do you make people who are living in perfection dissatisfied? They had no needs. They had never been hurt or abused. They couldn’t blame their actions on their dysfunctional family. However the devil made them believe they were missing out on something. He made two people living in paradise, dissatisfied with perfection. That’s amazing!” (Andrew Wommack ; From every day with Jesus). The above speaks volumes. If Adam and Eve had said, “we are happy with what we have, we don’t need to taste that fruit” then what happened would not have. This gives the magnitude of the effect that contentment can have on a person’s life. Some people have sacrificed their families, good relationships for better paid jobs. It’s all about balance. 1 Timothy 6; 6 -7 reads “But godliness with contentment is great gain, For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out”. The issue of contentment is a personal thing. Pray, weigh all your options and ask yourself “ why am l doing this ?”. Bisi Oladipupo

The world, the flesh and the devil work in concert to create discontentment. Think about it. You see something someone else has or an ad on TV, and you think, wow, I'd like to have that and at the same time the devil whispers in your ear "hey, you should have that, in fact, you deserve it." and then our flesh gets involves as we plot our way through sin and disobedience to get what it is we want. Of course, the specifics vary from person to person and situation to situation, but if you pare it all down, that's essentially what happens anytime we choose to ignore God and do things our way. Like you said, Satan was able to get the first couple with this strategy and it's been working ever since! Thanks for the post!!
