I have always believed in water baptism, however l have recently had more light shed on its significance. In the Old Testament, the children of Israel were told to circumcise their males ( Genesis 17: 13). In the New Testament we are also circumcised, however our own circumcision is without hands which is putting off the sins of the flesh and putting on Christ. “11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ” (Colossians 2: 11): Do how did this happen? Let us look further into scripture: “11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses” (Colossians 2: 11-13); So from the above scriptures we can see how this was obtained spiritually. We were buried with Jesus Christ in baptism and raised up with Jesus Christ when God raised Him up from the dead. So how does this relate to water baptism? Water baptism signifies our circumcision made without hands. We are saying as we go down into the water, we are putting off the sins of the flesh, and we rise up we are putting on Christ. Therefore water baptism is a symbol of our circumcision without hands. Bisi Oladipupo© Copyright 30th May 2022
