Have you ever walked pass a building site and seen a yellow sign “Work in progress”, most of us have. When we see the sign, we are not expecting a perfect building while the process is taking place. Growth is a process. Having a baby is a good example. All babies grow up however it’s a process and it takes time. In light of that, lets have a look at this scripture: Ephesians 4: 15 “ But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ”. Did you notice the phrase “may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ”. Which means that as long as we have not grown up into Him in all things, we are all work in progress. We need to grow up into Him in all things, e.g. meekness, kindness, gentleness, seeing things the way the Lord sees things, etc. the list goes on.
This is one reason why we need to be patient with each other and stop judging each other. Everyone is work in progress. The bible has this recorded for a reason “Ephesians 4: 1 - 3:, I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We have many scriptures in the bible that will help us keep our relationships. Love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4: 8) , forgiving one another (Colossians 3: 13) etc. Why do we need theses scriptures? Because we are all work in progress. As this is the true state of everyone, we should not be surprised when we see some incomplete works in some areas of our lives or others. We need to be patient with ourselves and with others. As long as we are open to learn, and determined to bring glory to the name of the Lord, it is okay to be patient with each other as we grow. Bisi Oladipupo

Beautiful observation. Its funny how there are times when I forget that I am a work in progress, and other times I remember. When times are good and I feel closer to God, I remember that I am progressing. When times are bad, I sometimes forget that. It's also funny that as Christians, it becomes difficult for us to confess our sins with each other. I think this is largely due to the fact that we forget how sinful we are and don't like to admit our mistakes. As you put it, "We need to be patient with ourselves and with others."

We need to cut other people the same slack that we would them to cut us. Also we need to forgive ourselves when we make mistakes, but at the same time always strive for perfection.

Thanks, Bisi. We have not yet arrived. Babe or mature in Christ, no matter where we are in life, we are still a work in progress."He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Phil. 1:6).

I remember that commercial a while ago that said "I want it all and I want it now." I think a lot of us are like that in our Christian walk. We want to jump from where we are to maturity overnight, but like you said, maturity is a process that takes a long time. So in all things, patience must go hand in hand with growing up into Christ. Thankfully we can trust that "He who began a good work in you, is faithful to complete it." Phil 1:6

As director of the Growth Groups in our church this post presents a simple and clear reason why we need to "continue" to grow. We are a work in progress and until the day of completion growth spiritual growth is essential. Thank you so much for this insight. I will definitely use this as part of our next group training! God bless.
